Ready for an autumn favorite? I love it when apple season rolls around!
If you have too many apples to eat before they go bad, how about making some apple pie in a jar?
You will need enough peeled, sliced apples to fill 7 quart canning jars.
This is not a recipe that requires a pressure canner, just a water bath canner. All you need to water bath can is a pot large enough to hold the canning jars, covered with water 1 1/2- 2″ above the tops of the jars.
Here are what the jars look like, after adding the syrup, before placing them into the water bath canner.

After the jars are removed from the canner, I like to place them on towels on our counter to let them cool. If you listen carefully, you may get to hear the satisfying “ping” of the canning jar lids when they pop down and seal as the jars cool.
To use the apple pie in a jar, simply make your favorite pie crust then dump the contents of the jar into the crust and bake as you normally would.
They can also be used to make an apple crisp. To do that, you would dump the apple pie in a jar into a pan… I would guess 2-3 cans would be needed for a 9″x13″ pan, then top with a mixture of butter, sucanat and rolled oats cut together. Bake at 350 degrees until the topping gets nice and lightly browned. Yummy and easy-peasy!
